Buddyprogramme
Are you interested in meeting new people from different cultures? Would you like to improve your language skills or increase your chances of getting a place as an exchange student at a university abroad? Be a Buddy!
Each year, Mid Sweden University receives international students from all over the world. The Buddyprogramme is a unique opportunity for students to meet people from different cultures and develop their language skills. In addition, Buddies have an extra qualification when applying for a place as an exchange student.
The aim of the Buddyprogramme is to make international students feel welcome in Sweden and help them adjust to their new study environment at Mid Sweden University. This is why international students are offered an opportunity to meet other Swedish and international students, so-called Buddies.
How does it work?
The Student Union at each campus is responsible for the Buddyprogramme. The Student Union provides the Buddies with contact information about the student or students who have shown an interest in taking part in the Buddyprogramme. You can be a Buddy for one or more international students.
What does a Buddy do?
International students are new in a foreign country and to facilitate things for them, the Buddy can answer questions like how things work at university, at campus or in Sweden. As a Buddy for an international student, you will play an important role in the student´s perception of the university. Therefore, it is your task to answer questions before the student arrives at the university, but also to guide the student around campus in the beginning of their stay. You could do things like showing them around campus, showing them typical Swedish groceries in a supermarket, take them for a fika or get them involved in the activities and events of the Student Union.
Qualification
Being a Buddy also increases your chances of getting a study place as an exchange student if you decide to study abroad later on. All students who have been active in the framework of the Student Union International Committee as a Buddy for one or more students get additional qualifications for their merit rating.
