Credit transfer for studies abroad

As an exchange student, you have the right to transfer credit points from your qualification abroad.

There are, however, some rules to follow:

  • One academic year of studies, according to the standards of the host university, including the examination period, is awarded with 60 credits. If you choose to study more than full-time, more than 60 credits may be awarded for your studies abroad. You can also obtain credits by distance education.
  • There may be a mandatory examination of your independent project at Mid Sweden University, even if the project already has been presented and approved at the host university.  This applies to the second and third cycle.
  • A credit transfer is not graded by the Mid Sweden University, but by the host university.
    Regarding credit transfer, you must:
  • Choose your courses at the host university in such a way that you avoid repeting previously approved courses.
  • Contact the subject representative at Mid Sweden University to clarify the courses and the specialised study, if the studies abroad are a part of the main subject for your degree.
  • Have the form  ”Learning Agreement” signed by the subject representative.
  • Apply for a credit transfer at your department when you come back. You do so by filling out the form “Application for credit transfer”.

The following documents should always be enclosed (if necessary translated into English):
  1. Course certificate, including a list of approved courses at the host university
  2. Syllabus and Recommended reading
  3. Documents that specify the standard for full-time studies at the host university, the system that is used for assessment of qualification, as well as other information the subject representative may need to transfer your credits.
  4. Travel report with useful information for Mid Sweden University and future exchange students.
