It was January 2011, Janna Frömbling, from Germany and Gregory Schurink from Holland had just arrived in Sundsvall to attend the Introduction for new students and that´s where they first met. “I remember the first time I saw Janna” tells Gregory. “She wore a white jacket and a white hat, and with her blonde hair and blue eyes I thought she was very beautiful.” Shortly thereafter, Janna´s roommate invited a few people to their place, including Gregory, and this started their friendship. “We soon became good friends and would study together” Janna remembers.
Then, about two weeks into the semester, there was another party and Gregory finally told Janna how he felt about her. The feelings were mutual, but Janna was already in a relationship with someone else in Germany. But when this relationship ended shortly thereafter, she and Gregory became a steady couple.
Janna and Gregory’s relationship grew over the course of the semester, and after they finished their studies in Sundsvall they decided to travel together to the northern parts of Sweden and also to Norway. When it was time to say good bye, they had already made plans to see each other again- the following weekend. Luckily, Germany and Holland are not far apart, and Janna´s home town of Munster is only a 2 hour car ride away from Utrecht where Gregory currently lives, so they see each other every weekend.
When asked where they see themselves in 5 years, they laugh. “Who knows! It is hard to predict as we are both still students. But hopefully we will be living somewhere together” they say in unison. What is also left to see is where in the world the couple will be living; Germany, Holland, or maybe somewhere else entirely. Wherever it may be, Sundsvall will always have a special place in their hearts as their very own city of love.
