Martin Wallstam
About
I am a former student of the Mid Sweden University Tourism programme from which I graduated with a Master’s degree in Human Geography in 2011. Previous to this I held an academic background in Hospitality Management and Sustainable Development. Industry experience consists of a couple of earlier jobs in hotels and travel operators.
I was given a Swedish Development Agency grant to conduct his Master’s thesis in the Philippines and I am as passionate about broader development issues as I am Event Management.
Current research
Right now I am working as project assistant in the Event Compass™ initiative. The project has the primary goal of creating a tool-kit of research-based methods that can be used in evaluating, certifying and ultimately guiding event organizers towards a path of continuous improvement.
Teaching and tutoring
Since graduating I have taught in eight different courses in the fields of Tourism Studies and Human Geography. Course topics have ranged from ”Destination Development” and ”Transport, Mobility & Sustainability” to ”Qualitative Methods” and ”North & South: Geographical Perspectives on Development Discourse”.
Other information
Growing up in an international setting (moving between Sweden, Ethiopia, France and Switzerland) has spurred my interest in tourism and given me perspective as to how this sector operates in different cultural contexts.
