A major part of the publishers (92% in 2006) allows uploading in a depository such as DiVA parallel to publishing in their journal. Before uploading to DiVA you must check the policy of the journal publisher in question. In most cases you are allowed to publish an author version of your article, but you are often not allowed to upload the final, published version.
You can find out about journal policies regarding parallel publishing in the database SHERPA/RoMEO.
If a journal does not allow parallel publishing the author can try to modify the journal agreement by adding a supplementary contract to the original journal contract. You can for instance use the addendum set up by SPARC®, the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition.
1. Check your journals policy in SHERPA/RoMEO or by contacting the publisher.
2. Log in to DiVA and fill in the article information in the first step of the form.
3. In the second step your PDF can be uploaded. Check the box for the correct version (accepted, submitted or published), browse to your file on your computer and upload.
4. The final publishing is done by a DiVA administrator in the library. When publishing a PDF a cover page is added with reference and link to the original publication.
The library publishing group is happy to help you with parallel publishing. Use the contact form to send us your questions.
