In connection with the Civil Engineering Day at Mid Sweden University, Christer Fuglesang visited the STC Research Center to see some of the latest research developed at the university.
Christer Fuglesang began his visit at Mid Sweden University with keeping a lecture for all students where he talked about his background and how he became an astronaut. After the lecture, Fuglesang visited the newly built X-ray lab at STC research center, where ther researchers demonstrated the equipment and presented their research projects.
On the picture below they look at the pictures of natural background radiation and cosmic radiation that reaches into the X-ray lab. MEDIPIX system measures the energy of each particle, and NASA plans to use the system to protect astronauts from getting too high doses of radiation during a mission. Mid Sweden University participates actively in MEDIPIX project coordinated by the research institute CERN in Geneva.
Civil Engineering Day is organized every year by students from the different Civil Engineering programs. This year the day was bigger than ever and offered a full schedule of exciting activities. In addition to the lecture by Christer Fuglesang a major exhibition was organized where students from All Civil Engineering programs demonstrated their work with solutions on real assigments from companies. One purpose of the day is to strengthen contacts between the university, students and the industry in the region so that they can meet and make contacts.
