Writing a paper
Here are some advice and answers to questions concerning document management,
that are frequent in connection to essay writing.
- If you need to format a document using a Word template, you should use this from the start. Do not mark headings merely by using bold type or large font, but instead choose the appropriate heading using the template.
- Always save your document in several locations so that you have a backup copy. These locations can be your USB memory stick, your network drive (H:) or others.
- Never save a document on the desktop of a computer on campus. Temporary files are deleted when you log out.
- If you want to edit a document that you have received as an attachment to an e-mail, always save the document first in a safe location.
- Make sure your references are correctly formatted according to the reference style used by your department.
Prepare the essay for publication
Before you apply any pagination or do any of the other things listed below, your essay need to be saved as one document
(including title page and appendices).
Once you have saved your document as a pdf file, you can publish your theses in DIVA.
