On October 13, 2015, the conference Science & Innovation Day will be organized in Sundsvall. It is a unique venue for industry and researchers to meet, exchange knowledge and develop new partnerships.

The conference focus this year on innovation, research and future development. You will meet researchers from Mid Sweden University and listen to the research results and innovations in the areas of high yield pulping technology, embedded sensor systems, measurement systems, large functional surfaces and forest as a resource industrial research college, Foric. We hope you will find new competitive advantages for your business!

From the future pulp mill to the Internet of Things

"Is it time for pulp mills to jump on the bio-economy boom?" The exciting question ask our first keynote speaker Niklas von Weymarn, VP of Metsä Fibre. Today's second speaker is Magnus Melander, an ICT entrepreneur with over 30 years experience of the industry. During the day you also have the chance to see future solutions when research projects presented by researchers from Mid Sweden University. The conference will conclude with a thought-provoking lecture by Ari Riabacke, an acclaimed speaker who based his research on decision processes will talk about how we lead successful organizations and how we make wise decision? TullaMaja Fogelberg is a journalist, reporter and presenter on Sveriges Radio in Sundsvall. Since 2004, she has brought Västernorrland into the day by P4's local morning radioshow. She also work among other things, to make radio documentaries.

Madelene Sandström, CEO of the Knowledge Foundation, will start as a Key Note Speaker at the Science & Innovation Day togheter with Anders Söderholm Vice Chancellor at Mid Sweden University. Madelene will present the Knowledge Foundation's view on research and funding.

The Knowledge Foundation's mission is to strengthen Sweden's competitiveness by funding research and professional development that takes place in close cooperation with industry. The Foundation supports universities to build internationally competitive research environments have a long-term strategic branding and increase cooperation between academic and industry. Research in co-production with the business leads to new knowledge and competence, new products and applications and process improvements.

 

 

Research in focus

Science & Innovation Day is a conference where research and industry meet under casual forms. In the programme session "Research in focus" you will take part of the latest research results from Mid Sweden University's two research centers STC and FSCN. In areas such as high yield pulping technology, embedded sensor systems, measurement systems and large functional surfaces the researchers together with industrial partners will presents the latest research advances and what the results will contribute to the industry.  There will also be an research exhibition that presents ongoing research. There the researchers will give you a personal presentation of research. Perhaps it is here you will find new competitive advantages in your business?

Bio refineries of the future

The pulp mills continues to be optimistic about the future despite the challenges that exist in the market with a declining sale of newsprint. There are great opportunities for pulp mills to get on the Bio-Economy boom coming up. The demand for sustainable products that replace fossil-based materials. Our mills are so much more than just paper pulp, says Niklas von Weymarn, VP at Metsä Fibre. He will talk about the Metsä Group, the future of bio-economy, the logic behind the new bio-product mill Äänekoski, the mill's role within a broader business ecosystem and plans for new bioproducts.

How should we react to the opportunities and risks of IoT, Internet of things, and why is it that Sweden can be number one on the field? What happens when two megatrends - IoT and the Makers Movement - come together?

Magnus Melander is an ICT entrepreneur with over 30 years in the industry. With his long experience at senior positions in international business he now runs the consulting firm Wbird that supports companies to develop their business by using IoT and M2M. In this presentation Magnus share his experiences of the IoT-area and how it affects us.

speakers and in Dagens Industri he is ranked top three among business speakers in Sweden and nominated as a International Guest Speaker of the Year 2014 by the Speakersforum.

A busy conference week

Science & Innovation Day held in week 42 in conjunction with the conference BIG42 (Business, Innovation and Gaming). The week begin with Business Innovation Day on Monday, October 12th, where the best researchers from Mid Sweden University helps the industry with their business challenges. On Tuesday, October 13th, Science and Innovation Day is arranged. After that, the conference week continues with lectures and workshops with a focus on service and business development in a digital society and the week ends with gaming for a bit younger audience.
