FAQ about passwords

How do I change the Windows password?

Push CTRL + ALT + Delete simultaneously and a window will open. The window has a button for password change. 

I am not able to change password, why?

You are trying to set a password that does not follow our password policy.

Why am I told to change the password when I have just done so?

You need to log out and log in again after the password change.

When I am about to change password it says “you lack authorization”, why is this?

Password Policy

The password can be changed at any time but must be changed at least every 90 days. Users will be informed when it is time to change the password.

You can choose a new password when ever you want. When changing your password you should be careful to follow rules:

  • Your password must have at least eight characters.
  • The first eight characters have to contain at least two characters each of at least three of the following four character groups.

BAKved99 is one example which follows this policy. Character group 1: ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVXYZ (CAPITALS)
Character group 2: abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvxyz (small letters)
Character group 3: 0123456789 (numbers)
Character group 4: !( ) = - _ * (only this special characters)

Characters 1,2,3 come from group 1
Characters 4,5,6 from group 2
Characters 7,8 from group 3

Temporary accounts

As an employee at the university you have the opportunity to create temporary accounts for use with out wireless network and some lecture halls.

To create more than a single temporary account may Helpdesk help with this or switch on the case in the context of external leasing of premises.

Log in using your staff ID below. Then click on "Externa konton" and follow the instructions. You have to sit on Mid Sweden University network to create accounts. You can not create accounts if you sit outside.
