The Future for Valmet and the forest industry
Docent Dr. Marita Niemelä has over 25 years of experience in industrial sectors ranging from oil refining and chemical industry to forest industry. She has broad insight and track record in energy, fuels and industrial chemicals with specialization in catalytic processes. Her recent focus has been in new technologies mainly in the areas of bioenergy, biofuels and biorefining.
Marita Niemelä joined Metso Pulp, Paper and Power in November 2012 as a Vice President Bio-Technologies. In October 2013 she was appointed as Vice President, Strategy in Valmet Pulp and Energy. She leads the strategy development of the business line with focus on biomass conversion technologies and environmental systems.
Prior to this appointment, Marita Niemelä worked at Pöyry as a Leading Advisor in Biofuels and Biorefining in Management Consulting in 2010-2012 and as a Vice President Biofuels and Biorefining in the Business Area Chemical Industry in 2007-2010. She also has several years of experience in R&D in various positions such as Director Chemicals in Avantium Technologies B.V., Team Leader at VTT, and Adjunct Professor in Industrial Chemistry at Aalto University. She was appointed to an honorary position of a Docent in Aalto University in the area of Catalysis in Biofuels and Biorefining in 2012.
