The concept of Concurrent design (CCD) is a subset of Concurrent Engineering. Was developed by NASA in order to raise the quality of the projects, reduce delays and provide better control. Is also used by the European Space Center (ESA)

The definition of Concurrent Engineering that we (ESA) have adopted for the Concurrent Design Facility is:

"Concurrent Engineering (CE) is a systematic approach to integrated product development that emphasises the response to customer expectations. It embodies team values of co-operation, trust and sharing in such a manner that decisionmaking is by consensus, involving all perspectives in parallel, from the beginning of the product life-cycle."Begreppet Concurrent design (CCD) är en delmängd av Concurrent Engineering.
