The primary aim of the Postgraduate education in psychology is to help students’ development into independent researchers.

Available postgraduate study positions are, among other channels, announced at the university’s site for positions, Lediga anställningar. Admission to the program requires a minimum of 240 credits including 60 at advanced level.

Education
Postgraduate education in psychology comprises 240 credits and leads to a PhD. The PhD program can be conducted in full or part time, but at least half-time, and include a maximum of eight years. Postgraduate studies can also include 120 credits leading to a licentiate degree (maximum 4 years).
 
The education includes both courses and a the writing of a thesis.
 
The studies conducted within the framework of a doctoral position (usually over a period of five years) includes 80 percent of the time devoted to studies and 20 percent to teaching.
 
Research
The subject of study in the science of psychology is human emotion, cognition and action, i.e. human behavior. At the Division of Psychology research includes a vast array of interests ranging from basic research about attention, perception, emotion, and developmental psychology, to more applied research concerning treatment of ill health, both somatic and psychological. Newly admitted students will be part of the research team best suited to each student thesis topic. Read more about our different topics.

The research conducted within the Department of Psychology is presented regularly in the senior seminar series. Graduate students are expected to present their research there.
 
Organization
Each student is assigned a primary supervisor and one assistant supervisor. It is the student's choice of dissertation topic and the supervisor’s skills that determine the choice of tutors. Graduate students are included along with other staff in the department’s organization, and participate in the meetings of the department and in the senior seminar series.
