On May 20, 2014 Jie He had his public defence of Doctoral Thesis in Chemical Engineering, FSCN. He got his Doctoral Degree.

His supervisors has been Prof Per Engstrand, Associate Prof Wennan Zhang and Dr Olof Björkqvist. The title of the Thesis is: "Gasification-based biorefinery for Mechanical Pulp Mills".
