Master Programme in Emotion Psychology, 120 credits
Emotion is an important field in psychology, because emotions are contantly affecting us in everyday life. For example, in interaction with others, in decision making, what we attend to, etcetera. Above all, emotions are important ingredients in well-being, psychological as well as physical. The program will provide you with a solid theoretical foundation and scientific training, aiming to shape analytical and systematic thinking, and also, the ability to evaluate and contribute to the field of research.
The Master program will give you a widening and deepening understanding of emotion psychology, as a discipline and as research area. The selection of courses is consistent with the research and base of knowledge available at the department of Psychology at Mid Sweden University, with application also in other areas.
The program consists of three parts: theoretical foundation, application, and an independent scientific work (Master thesis). The first year consists of advanced courses in emotion psychology and research methods. The third semester consists of for applied courses of choice. Eligible courses are specified in the syllabus, and the choice of courses provided in the program is based on the students’ areas of interest. The applied courses will lay foundation for the master theses (30 cc, finalized during the fourth semester).
For greater flexibility, the program is available as a distance learning program with two compulsory meetings each semester (at the campus in Östersund), and it is also possible to study by full-time or part time studies. During the second semester (the first year), you also have the possibility to write a thesis (15 cc) to complete a one-year Master.
The decision to study part- or full-time can be changed over time. All students’ sign up for full-time study and when the program starts, they choose if they would like to take both, or just one of the two 7.5 credit courses in each ten-week period.
All courses are provided in English.
Meetings
Each semester there are two mandatory meetings at the campus in Östersund, Sweden.
As there is mandatory web-seminar via Adobe Connect (or equivalent), you need a headset, a webcam and a well-functioning internet connection.
Entry requirements
Bachelor (180 hp) in psychology, with a degree thesis/independent work of 15 credits, or equivalent. In cases where the applicant lacks bachelor's degree in psychology, an individual assessment will be conducted. English B/English 6 from Swedish gymnasium or the equivalent.
