"Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)"
PTSD among workers in the transportation sectors in Stockholm (e.g. subway) is a project comparing treatment effects, psychometric and biological variables, including regional cerebral blood flow in train drivers subjected to people committing suicide in the transportation system. It is collaborative project between the Karolinska Institute, local transportation companies and the Departments of Psychology and Public Health at MIUN. The project has published several peer-reviewed articles and one doctoral thesis (2008).
A substantial part of patients admitted at Critical Care develops PTSD and PTSD symptoms due to their stay at the critical care centre at the hospital. Reason for this are not fully known but can be due not inefficient sedation or experiences directly related to the ward environment. We have, and are presently, investigating PTSD due to stay at the critical care centre but also means of treating patients, and also how preventive measures could alleviate suffering for these patients. Several articles and conference papers, as well as one doctoral thesis (2013), have already been published in this project done in collaboration with Karolinska Hospital and Institute.
