Link to electronic full text

Print

When creating links to articles from the library's databases, copying the URL in the browser's address window rarely works.

In certain databases a DOI is used. It stands for Digital Object Identifier. Other databases have their own stable links.

To make the link work off campus, it should begin with a so-called proxy prefix (http://proxybib.miun.se/login?url=).

When you have constructed a link as in the examples below, try it to see if it works before you put it in a reference list.

The DOI System

The DOI System is used by the following full text databases

SpringerLink, ScienceDirect, IEEExplore, Oxford Journals, Cambridge Journals, Sage Journals, ACM Digital Library, Wiley Interscience, InformaWorld, BMJ Journals, ACS Publications and Emerald.

DOI links most frequently point to a web page with an abstract from which you may click through to a PDF version of the full text itself.

How to create a link:

  1. Start with the proxy prefix to make the link work off campus http://proxybib.miun.se/login?url=
  2. Add the DOI link http://dx.doi.org/
  3. Add the DOI as displayed in the bibliographic information about the article, for example 10.1007/978-3-540-85204-9_23.

The EBSCO databases Academic Search Elite and Business Source Premier

DOI links can't be used for full text within the two EBSCO databases called Academic Search Elite and Business Source Premier. Instead you have to use their own stable links which can be found in the bibliographic records under the heading "Permalink" in the right menu.

How to create a link:

  1. Start with the proxy prefix to make the link work off campus http://proxybib.miun.se/login?url=
  2. In the right column, see "Permalink". Copy the URL.

Complete link:

The ProQuest databases

The following apply to ERIC, PILOTS, PsycARTICLES, PsycINFO, Social Services Abstracts, Sociological Abstracts, Biological sciences, ProQuest Dissertations & Theses A&I, Physical Education Index, Linguistics and Language Behavior Abstracts och Worldwide Political Science Abstracts.

How to create a link:

  1. Start with the proxy prefix to make the link work off campus http://proxybib.miun.se/login?url=
  2. Add the stable link which you will find in the full record of the article. Scroll to the bottom and copy the "Document URL".

Jstor

The extensive article repository called Jstor also has its own stable links.

How to create a link:

  1. Start with the proxy prefix to make the link work off campus http://proxybib.miun.se/login?url=
  2. Add the link called "Stable URL".

Linking to different content in Diva

Diva is both a platform for electronic publishing and for storing information about research publications. If you need to link to something for which full text is available inside Diva you should use the link called Permanent link. These will be available for doctoral dissertations and student theses that have been electronically published in Diva.

Example:
http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:miun:diva-11250

If you find articles that are not electronically published in Diva you should look in the bibliographic record for a DOI. This can then be used to link in the same manner as previously described on this page.
