Lunchseminarium: Intuition or deliberation – How do professionals make decisions in action?
Research on the up- and downsides of intuitive vs. deliberate decision-making has accumulated, yet we still know little on when decision-makers actually use these modes in complex, real-life decision situations. In a study in the field of maritime search-and-rescue we examined the influence of decision-making preference, experience and environmental complexity on the choice of decision mode. The results point to potential downside of experience in decision-making, they help us understand when decision-makers actually “trust their gut” and contain interesting insights for decision-makers in the field and for those who train them.
