Checklist after your arrival

In order for you to be well prepared when you start your studies we have listed some things you need to do during your first weeks at campus.

Access your accommodation

One of the first things you might want to do is to access to your new home. The keys to your new home are handed out by the housing company within their opening hours. Students who requested our pick-up service can receive help with collecting their keys. If your accommodation, for some reason, not is available on the day of your arrival you can always book a room at the local Youth Hostel.

Attend the introduction days

We understand that the first couple of days as an international student can be confusing which is why we offer introduction activities to help you settle in.

Activate your user identity

As a new student, you need to activate your user identity to get access to our IT services. During the introduction days you will receive your own personal user ID and password to the Mid Sweden University's Student Portal.

Register your details in the Student Portal

Make sure to fill in your Swedish address, e-mail and Swedish phone number when you activate your user identity.

Register yourself on courses

When you have activated your user identity you can register yourself on courses in the Student Portal.

Register your library account

You get a library account when you activate your user identity and approve of the library lending rules. It takes about an hour after your activation before the library account is made.

Check your course schedule

Approximatley 24 hours after you have registered on your first course you will be able to check your schedule in the Student Portal.

Order and collect your MIUN card (key card)

After you have registered on your first course you can visit the Service Station and order your MIUN card. You can pick it up at the Reception Desk approximateley 24 hours after you ordered it.

Pay the Student Union fee

Visit the Student Union reception if you want to be a member

Attend the welcome activities

During the first weeks the Student Unions arranges fun welcome activities for new students. These activities are always optional, but attending them is a good way to make new friends and getting to know the city.

Apply for a Swedish civic registration number

If you study here for over a year (excluding June & July), apply for a Swedish civic registration number ("personnummer"). This facilitates your contacts with Swedish authorities (e.g. banks), lets you search for part-time jobs, and enables you to receive medical services on the same basis as the Swedes.

Have you?

  • received your student portal identity and activated it?
  • registered yourself on courses in the Student Portal?
  • found out where your course runs and if there is a learning platform?
  • collected your key card?
  • registered at the library?
  • paid your student's union fee?

If the answer to the above questions is 'yes' then it's time to get started with your studies!
