Information security
When you work with research data, you need to be sure that your data is stored in a secure location and that you can share data securely if necessary. Secure means a place that is protected from intrusion by unauthorised persons, and which regularly saves a backup.
Mid Sweden University recommends that you save your data on our server (H:/). Here you can read more about what to think about when it comes to information security.
Information security
Each researcher is responsible for ensuring that current information security policies and guidelines are followed. The external activities connected to the University’s IT resources must comply with the University’s policy and guidelines for information security.

Processing of personal data
The General Data Protection Regulation places special requirements on the handling of research data containing personal data. Through the links below you will find information about what you need to consider when processing personal data within the framework of a research project. Here you can read about what special rules apply to sensitive personal data, what information should be provided to the data subjects, and what applies if personal data is to be shared with someone else outside the university:

Rate your information
To know what protection your information needs, an information classification and risk analysis should be carried out, then security measures should be developed. The work on security measures and their action plan is carried out with the support of the IT Department.

To facilitate the classification of information based on confidentiality and storage, a special template has been developed. The template describes documents, what they contain, classification and where they are stored.

Store data and share it with others
Sharing material with researchers at other higher education institutions, also from other countries, is a common need for researchers. Depending on the type of information to be shared, different rules apply.
In the procedure description for digital workspaces for Mid Sweden University staff, you can see which storage area you should choose depending on the information to be handled.
