Aim

The course aims to provide advanced knowledge in the development and application of archival theory with a focus on current theories.

Course objectives

After completing the course students will be able to:
- Independently explain and discuss archival theory, its key concepts and
development over time
- Analyze and compare different theoretical approaches
- Discuss archival theory, its practical application in organizations and practical
implications for the development of information

- History of ideas in archives and information science
- The Lifecycle Model vs. the Records Continuum Model
- Appraisal theory
- Records concepts
- Authenticity

Bachelor's degree (180 credits)

Selection rules and procedures

The selection process is in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance and the local order of admission.

Teaching form

Instruction consists of lectures, seminars and workshops. About 20% consists of teacher-led instruction. The remainder consists of self-study. Part of the teaching is conducted via the Internet and the course therefore requires access to a PC with a headset and webcam and an internet connection.

Examination form

R104: Report, 6 Credits
Grade scale: Seven-grade scale, A, B, C, D, E, Fx and F. Fx and F represent fail levels.

S104: Seminar, oral presentation of report, 1.5 Credits
Grade scale: Fail (U) or Pass (G)
