On April 16-18, 2024, we will be hosting the Åre Risk Event conference as a physical event in Åre, for the first time since 2019. The theme for this edition is "Crisis Preparedness in a Changing World." The conference language is Swedish. Some keynotes and presentations will be held in English.
Åre Risk Event is a meeting place where researchers, entrepreneurs, politicians and representatives of public and voluntary organisations can exchange knowledge and experience. The conference language will be Swedish, but both international keynotes and some of the research presentations will be in English.

Johan von Schreeb
Johan von Schreeb is a surgeon and professor of global disaster medicine and leads the Knowledge Centre for Global Disaster Medicine and the Centre for Health Crisis at Karolinska Institutet.
He has worked in disasters around the world for 25 years and was one of the founders of Swedish Doctors Without Borders. Johan von Schreeb works regularly in disasters, including during the Ebola epidemic in West Africa when he coordinated international health efforts on behalf of the WHO. In spring 2020, he gave advice in disaster medicine to Swedish authorities and regions. Today, he is stand by to support WHO on the ground in Ukraine.
During Åre Risk Event Johan von Schreeb will talk about combining field work with research.
Olena Muradyan
Olena Muradyan is head of the Department of Sociology at Karazin Kharkiv National University (KNU) in Ukraine. She will talk about her experiences in sustaining educational and research activities following the start of Russia’s invasion on 24 February 2022.
How to convert teaching and working methods in a war situation, when teaching premises and offices are destroyed in rocket attacks? How do you put up education when access to electricity and the internet disappears or is at best irregular? And when parts of the workforce and many students have fled abroad? How to recruit new students to a university near the frontline?
Åre Risk Event is held at Holiday Club in Åre. The conference starts at 13.00 on 16 April and ends with lunch on 18 April.
