A wireless visual node is a combination of computational logic, microprocessors, imaging detector and radio transceiver. Networks of wireless nodes can be set up for surveillance of large areas. It is an imaging smart sensor node connected in a radio based network. Interesting optimization problems occur when for example measured parameters from the observed area is sent from a visual node to a central server for further communication with receiving part of information. How to map image processing tasks onto the visual node versus central server in order to minimize energy consumption at the battery powered node? Usually, the image processing is done in the node, the less energy is spent on energy hungry communication. At the same time computation is not for free, energy is needed for processors and logic. Furthermore, how to map image processing tasks internally in the node between hardware logic versus microcontroller to achieve lowest possible energy consumption? This PhD project aiming at core design methods is run in close cooperation with the magnetic particle detection as well as detection of eagle projects.
