Background

Joel Ljunggren received his MSc in Biotechnology and Genomics from Umeå University in 2010. His Master thesis was completed at Tohoku University in Japan where he worked with computational modelling of docking molecules to the NEF protein expressed by HIV. In 2015 he defended his Licentiate thesis with the title “Biochemical Interactions of Some Saproxylic Fungi”.

Area of interest

Coming from a multidisciplinary background of biology, programming and chemistry, Joel is working within the interdisciplinary cross-over between ecology and chemistry. He is especially active in the development of effective methods that find biologically relevant information from complex systems.

Current research

His main research project is to find and identify bioactive secondary metabolites from wood-decaying fungi.
