The Department of Information Systems and Technology is located at Campus Sundsvall and conducts research and education in the following subjects: Archives and Information Science, Computer Engineering, Informatics, Electrical Engineering, Computer and System Science, and Business Management and Organization.
Duties
As a professor, you have responsibilities for teaching and supervision at all educational levels, as well as performing own research, writing applications for research funding and management and participation in research projects. Duties also include providing information on research and cooperation with the wider community. Tasks of an administrative nature, including management, may also arise. Furthermore, it is expected that the holder of this position should through their activities contribute to the development and continuity of the subject. This requires presence at the workplace.
You will perform research in Data Science with a focus on areas such as Machine Learning, Mathematical Statistics, Optimization, Artificial Intelligence, Algorithms and Complexity in the field of Communication Systems. The research is conducted in the group for communication systems and networks, where you are expected to both collaborate with other researchers and take your own initiatives. Financed research time and a doctoral student is guaranteed during the first four years, after which the applicant is expected to have attracted external funding in order to maintain a high rate of research.
Eligibility and assessment criteria
To be eligible for the position of professor you must have proven scientific and teaching proficiency (Chapter 4, Section 3 of the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance) in the subject and have the other abilities needed to carry out the duties of the position competently. In addition, the eligibility requirements and assessment criteria described in Mid Sweden University’s Employment procedures and the Qualifications criteria for employment as a professor at the Faculty of Science, Technology and Media are applicable.
In the assessment process, special consideration will be given to scientific research merits and skills shown by the applicant in the areas of machine learning, mathematical statistics, optimization, artificial intelligence, computer vision, algorithms and complexity or equivalent. These merits and skills should significantly exceed those which are required for appointment as an associate professor.
In addition to the above eligibility requirements and assessment criteria, the following qualifications are particularly advantageous:
- Experience of applying machine learning, mathematical statistics, optimization, artificial intelligence, algorithms and complexity in the area of computer communication or telecommunication.
- Experience of duties comprising management/leadership and experience of acquiring and running major research projects.
- Very good ability to communicate in English, both written and spoken.
- Experience of teaching at master’s level.
- Administrative skills.
Additional merits taken into account are:
- Knowledge in computer vision and security.
- Ability to communicate in Swedish.
Procedure
The employment process follows the principles laid out in Chapter 4 of the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance and proceeds in accordance with the employment procedures applicable to Mid Sweden University.
