Badhusparken and Surfbukten by Lake Storsjön

Badhusparken is a park and recreational area by Lake Storsjön within walking distance from campus. The park includes paths for running and biking, mini-golf and café, and if you walk across the bridge over to the island of Frösön you find an outdoor gym, and also Surfbukten which is another popular place to hang out. Here you can rest in the hammocks, swim, play beach volleyball, go wakeboarding, and much more. Most of the Surfbukten activities are free!

Gustavsbergsbacken/Ladängen

Also on the island of Frösön, you find the hill Östberget which usually goes by the names Gustavsbergsbacken (the side of the hill facing the city) or Ladängen (facing the other side). In the winter there is downhill skiing, and in the summer it is popular for mountain biking, running, or hiking. There are magnificent views from the top of the hill, as well as a look-out tower and a cafe.

Downtown area

Östersund's down town area is within walking distance from campus and the accommodation, and has plenty of shops, cafes, resturants, and pubs. The city was awarded the Student City of the Year in 2018-2019 and received the City Center of the Year award in 2019.
