Master by Research at STC

At the research center Sensible Things that Communicate, STC, we offer an education called Masters by Research in the subjects of electronics. The Master by Research Programme targets those who are highly motivated to develop skills and knowledge for future career in academic research or in industrial or public R&D.

Master by Research is a training programme where you as a student will start up your own project, that after two years will lead to your Master thesis. You will be a member of a research group at STC and carry out research supervised by the professor in charge of the group.

Only a few students will be admitted and if you have shown excellent results in your Bachelor studies and are self-motivated to further specialize in your field academically, this is something for you.

Master by Research - Electronics, groups and open positions.

Group: Wireless Sensor Systems

Project: ORESS, On-Rotor Embedded Sensor Systems

In the research project On-Rotor Embedded Sensor Systems we are investigating new sensing principles for measuring parameters such as angular velocity and acceleration, vibrations, torque, etc.

Applications closed - no vacancies

Project: OnTop, Online Topography Measurements

In the research project Online Topography Measurements we are investigating new ways of characterizing a surface in terms of topography, where the current applications are for paper and paperboard.

Applications closed - no vacancies

Project: Development of Optical Fiber Based Laser Sources for Industrial Applications

The objective in this research project is to develop new efficient optical fiber based laser sources for industrial applications. Lasers are frequently used in industrial applications as well as in our everyday life and new application areas are discovered continuously. Optical fiber based laser sources have several advantages compared to conventional lasers as they consume less energy, are more compact and have a better beam quality.

Applications closed - no vacancies

Group: Power Electronics

Project: High frequency power converters

In the research project high frequency power converters very compact power supplies are developed operating at higher switching frequencies that traditionally. The higher frequency enable usage of smaller energy storage elements as less energy is required to be stored for every switching cycle.

Applications closed - no vacancies

Group: Power Electronics

Project: Electronics for Induction heating

The power electronics research group are working with induction heating for different applications for a few heating applications. Within this project a fully working induction heating system should be implemented and optimized for a specific application by physical modeling and simulation of heating.

Applications closed - no vacancies

Group: System on FPGA and Vision

Project: Modeling and Synthesis of Image Analysis for a Vision Sensor

In the research project we investigate different combinations of programming models, tools and computational platforms used for real-time image analysis. Their impact on design metrics such as designer’s workload, programmability, power, energy, frame speed and latency must be investigated.
